My First Blog!
Hi and welcome to my first blog. It's pretty exciting to finally have my new website up and running. I'm extra happy to now have an online store, so those hard to find ingredients are now only a 'click' away. If there are any products you'd like to see included in the store, please let me know. I'll be adding different items from time to time, things like meditation CD's, DVD's of old TV series I've done, books, a fabulous apron and different food items.
It seems that lots of people want to know more about alternative foods. Things like gluten free grains, sea weeds, ancient cereals, lesser used fruits and veggies, 'super foods', miso paste and other Japanese ingredients to name but a few. So I'll do my best to take the fear out of using obscure and foreign ingredients in this blog.
It's important to know what foods to include once you start to avoid bread, pasta, white rice, milk, cheese and meat, so I'll give you alternative sources of iron, protein, calcium, zinc and other important nutrients . If you go to the Recipes page you'll find a good election of my recipes that will get you started, but from time to time I'll add more here.
I'll also talk about the health of the body and mind. In my clinic I seem to get waves of patients presenting with the same symptoms. It usually has to do with the season so I'll talk about this and how to treat common (and not so common) ailments using food, herbs, lifestyle tips and covering the associated emotional component.
And keep you up to date on what's going on with me.
Gary Mehigan (MasterChef) and I filmed the second series of Good Chef Bad Chef throughout August. (Yes, he is the busiest man on the planet.) It starts Monday, October 12th on Lifestyle Food at 6:30pm. It's a daily show. Gary and I have fun making this series so hopefully you'll be inspired to experiment with some of the ingredients I use and try some of Gary's healthier recipes. (See the TV/DVD pages for more.) The first series has done well in Europe and the Middle East so they are keen for the second series, which is pretty exciting. I hope you enjoy the show and learn heaps about gluten free, sugar free, dairy and meat free cooking and ingredients. And of course be marveled by Gary's chopping skills and very indulgent recipes.
I will enter a new blog at least weekly. I've got lots of ideas but I'm happy to receive suggestions of course.
In Good Health,
Janella
Btw, that kinda strange looking seafood above is a shellfish called NAVAJA. It's popular in Spain and tastes a bit like a mix of scallops and mussels. Very yummy indeed
